$10,000 reward offered to catch/convict Surrey prison escapee

Surrey RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in providing information regarding a male subject wanted on several warrants.

Shawn Merrick, 43 years old from Surrey, is currently wanted on a Canada wide warrant for Escape from Lawful Custody.  He escaped from a minimum security institution on March 31, 2015. He was serving a sentence for Second Degree Murder and Robbery offences.

Merrick is also wanted for two counts of Robbery allegedly stemming from two incidents that occurred on April 17, 2015 in Surrey.

On April 17th at approximately 1 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a male attempting to rob a bank in the 15900 block of Fraser Highway. The suspect was unsuccessful in his attempt. At approximately 1:35 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a robbery in the 15100 block of 101st Avenue. The suspect was described as a white male, late 40s to 50s, with blond hair and a black jacket. The suspect is believed to be the same in both incidents.

In addition, Merrick is an alleged suspect in multiple robberies recently in the Langley area.

Merrick is described as a 43-year-old Caucasian male, 5’8″, 141 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes. He has a tattoo of a skull and on the left side of his chest and a dragon on his right upper arm. He also has a burn scar on his right forearm. (Please see photo attached).

The Surrey RCMP is interested in any information related to MERRICK’s whereabouts. This subject represents a threat to the safety of the public and should be considered dangerous. Members of the public are asked not to approach Merrick and to call 911 if they see him.

The Canadian Bankers Association has also offered a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of this individual.
