Trail armoury to get $1 million
Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Kemball Armoury in Trail is getting $1 million for numerous upgrades to the facility over the next two years, according to an announcement made Tuesday by MP David Wilks, on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence.
“”I am pleased to be here today at the Trail Armoury to announce a $1 million investment to upgrade the Armoury and better support our brave men and women in uniform working here,” Wilks said. “This positive investment will benefit the community at large as well, through the boost it will give to the local economy and job creation in Trail.”
The investment will allow for improvements such as the replacement of windows and doors, upgrades to washrooms, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, and fire safety systems, as well as painting of exterior walls. Work is scheduled to begin this summer.
The Kemball Armoury is home to 44 Engineer Squadron, of the 39 Combat Engineering Regiment. The regiment is part of 39 Canadian Brigade, Canada’s Army in British Columbia. The regiment maintains service to Canada through the generation of reserve engineer soldiers that support overseas missions as well as civilian authorities during times of domestic emergency and security.
The projects announced today will ensure that the men and women of the CAF and Canadian youth in the country’s Cadet Program can continue to train, learn, and support their community in infrastructure that fully responds to their needs. This investment will also provide a boost to the local economy and job creation in Trail.
Quick Facts
The federal infrastructure investments, announced by Prime Minister Harper in November 2014, will build and renew infrastructure across the country, creating jobs and economic prosperity for local communities.
The Department of National Defence has received $452 million for the repair and upgrade of Canadian Armed Forces facilities.
Over the next two years, $135 million will be invested in projects involving repairs to roofs, siding, plumbing, and heating and ventilation systems at Armouries across Canada. By completing this work, DND will ultimately improve the efficiency and reduce maintenance costs at these facilities.
The Government estimates that accelerated investments will also support the creation of over 10,000 jobs in communities across Canada, like Trail, by the end of 2016.
