Locals will get a chance to weigh in on the 2016 provincial budget at a public meeting slated for Sept. 16 at the Fireside Inn, according to a press released issued last week.

“The consultation period will formally open by Sept. 15 in conjunction with the release of the Budget 2016 Consultation Paper prepared by the Ministry of Finance,” the release said. “British Columbians are invited to participate again this year by presenting at a community public hearing in person, via conference call or by videoconference; making a written submission; sending an audio or video file; or completing an online survey.

“Registration for the public hearings opens on Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. To register to make a presentation, please contact the Parliamentary Committees Office by phone, 1 877 428-8337, or by email: FinanceCommittee@leg.bc.ca

“Further information on how to participate, including public hearing locations and times, as well as information on the work of the committee, is available on the committee’s website at: www.leg.bc.ca/cmt/finance

“Public consultations on the provincial budget are held annually in accordance with the Budget Transparency and Accountability Act. The deadline for public input is Oct. 15.”

The committee must release a report on the results of its consultations by Nov. 15.
