South Okanagan area hit by rash of break-ins and theft of trucks
If you own a Ford F250 and F350 pickup truck, and you live in the South Okanagan, you might want to park it indoors.
RCMP is reporting a rash of break-ins and theft of vehicles in the South Okanagan since the beginning of 2016.
“The South Okanagan RCMP Detachments have been busy investigating a rash of stolen pickup trucks in the area in the past few weeks,” Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a media release.
“Thieves appear to be targeting the Ford F250 and F350 pickup trucks. The crimes are occurring in the early morning hours between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. with some occurring during day time involving residential break-ins.”
Moskaluk said these incidents are believed to be connected and associated with thefts from businesses and residences occurring — including ATVs, trailers, personal belongings and expensive machinery have been stolen.
“No arrests have been made but local area investigators have been working together linking the crimes and have identified persons of interest,” Moskaluk said.
“Police are looking for anyone that may have witnessed any suspicious activities that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Areas of interest are Princeton, Oliver, Osoyoos, Keremeos and Okanagan Falls.”
Moskaluk said RCMP is reminding owners of Ford F Series pick-up trucks, to please take precautions to ensure your vehicles are secure, making it more difficult for them to be stolen.
“There are many ways available to assist in deterring a potential thief, including but not limited to instruments similar to a club or engine immobilizer,” he said.
If anyone notices someone or a vehicle that looks out of place take note of descriptions and record licensed plate numbers and contact your local RCMP or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 with any information regarding these crimes.
