SUMMER JOBS FOR STUDENTS

NOW OPEN – EMPLOYER 2017 CANADA SUMMER JOBS APPLICATIONS
Ottawa, ON – Richard Cannings, MP – South Okanagan-West Kootenay – is pleased to announce that it is time for all not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with up to 50 employees to apply for funding from the Government of Canada. The application period for the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program begins on December 7, 2016 to January 20, 2017.
Canada Summer Jobs is part of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy, which is committed to helping young people, particularly those facing barriers to employment, get the information and gain the skills, work experience and abilities they need to make a successful transition to the labour market.
“This program creates summer job opportunities and valuable work experience for full-time students aged 15 to 30 years age”. I encourage eligible businesses to apply for funding so that we can help our students gain the skills and experience they need to be successful, while earning money for the upcoming school year,” Stated Cannings. “If you have hired a student in the past, you know how beneficial it can be for your organization. You also know first-hand how important it is for students to gain much-needed skills and experience and contribute to our community. I encourage you to take advantage of this great program and apply for funding for students that you require to help you. By doing so, we will be able to provide more funding to even more local employers.”
CSJ focuses on local priorities, and I am also encouraging more employers to come forward with applications that support and complement a number of national priorities. These include:
1. employers involved in the welcome and settlement of immigrants (including Syrian refugees) in Canada;
2. employers that hire Indigenous people;
3. opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Information, and Communications Technology (ICT);
4. employers involved in activities celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation; and
5. small businesses, in recognition of their contribution to the creation of new jobs.
