Golden City Days will be really golden!

The forecast is for continued fine weather, but if the meteorologists were a bit off their game and we had a cloudy day for the parade, it would be just as fine.  Really.  But chances are it will be sunny for all the Golden City Days ― the main events are from September 8th to 10th.

But on Thursday September 7th there's a softball tournament, and don't  miss the Rossland Mountain Market  from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at Queen and Columbia.

On Friday the 8th, there will be guided tours at the Rossland Museum, starting at 1:00 and 3:00, and gold panning demonstrations at 2:30 and 3:30 ― entry by donation.  Then, get tickets in advance (from the Red Pair, $15) for live music and dancing at the  Miners Union Hall; doors open at 6:30.

Friday will also feature live entertainment at the Rossland Legion, the Rossland Eagles, and the Flying Steamshovel.

On Saturday, fortify yourself for the day's festivities with the traditional firefighters' Pancake Breakfast at  the Rossland Fire Hall, starting at 7:30 am.

To be sure you don't miss anything, do pick up a brochure and read about the rest of the scheduled events ― they're available at various locations around town.   Check out the buzz on the  Golden City Days FaceBook page.  And if you want to catch the flavour of Golden City Days, watch  this short video (under two minutes!)

The parade (scheduled to start at 11:00 am) will be fun ― and after that, the Fall Fair in the arena, with food vendors and a special edition of the Rossland  Mountain Market outside.

The Grand Re-opening of the newly renovated Rossland Legion (the upstairs lounge) at 2081 Washington Street will be on Saturday, at 12:30 pm, following the parade.  Our riding's Member of Parliament, Richard Cannings, will be there to honour the occasion, as will our Member of the Legislative Assembly, Katrine Conroy. The Rossland Legion provides a friendly space for Legion events, and is also available for rent by other groups. For the past year, while the Miners Hall was being renovated, the Rossland branch of the Legion  hosted the "Joe Hill Coffeehouse,"  a completely volunteer, once-a-month  showcase for local performers.

The Legion’s Lounge Renovation project was funded in part by the Government of Canada’s new Horizons for Seniors Program. Project funding was used to improve lighting and replace the floor throughout the lounge area. Much of the installation work was done by Legion members, including painting all the interior walls for a fresh new ambience throughout.

From the Legion, it's a very short walk to the Gold Rush Bookstore where Rossland resident Captain Skip Rowland will be launching his second book, "No Return Ticket ― Leg Two" at noon.  It's a rollicking true tale of modern sailing adventures, shared by his wife Denise, complete with a frightening attack by pirates and a terrifying medical emergency, and much more.  It's a good read.

Later that same afternoon at Gold Rush, Kootenay author Jake Conkin will put on a puppet show for kids, to introduce them to his books and their characters.

Golden City Days will be jam-packed with activities, and they'll all be fun. Pick up that schedule of events and carry it with you all weekend so you can catch the ones that interest you the most. Remember, we're all invited to wear red and white, to help celebrate Canada 150.
