Marwest and the City of Castlegar are advising the public that the second phase of the Columbia Avenue Complete Streets Project is commencing this week. The newly affected area is between 15Street and 17 Street on Columbia Avenue.

The intersection at 15 Street and Columbia Avenue will temporarily become an uncontrolled intersection as crews remove light standards, upgrade the utilities and conduct utility tie-ins.

At any intersection where a yield or stop sign is present, drivers facing the sign must yield the right of way to any other motorist approaching the intersection. If you are at a stop sign you must yield to vehicles and pedestrians and may not proceed until it is safe. You must yield the right of way to any highway construction or maintenance vehicles that have their warning lights in operation.

There will still be construction from13 to 15 Street while crews install sidewalks, gutters, tree cells and bike paths.

The water truck will continue to water areas where dust is present both on Columbia Avenue and its side streets. Other Trades are now onsite; therefore, we encourage motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to use caution and have patience when travelling this route.
