Two offerings from RCAC to brighten our January

For its first January offering, the Rossland Council for Arts and Culture (RCAC) brings a screening of “Delicatessen” (1992) to Rossland — a unique film where a post-apocalyptic future becomes the setting for pitch black humor in this visually intricate French comedy. The action takes place within a single apartment complex, which is owned by the same man who operates the downstairs butcher shop. It’s a particularly popular place to live, thanks to the butcher’s uncanny ability to find excellent cuts of meat despite the horrible living conditions outside. The newest building superintendent, a former circus clown, thinks he has found an ideal living situation.
This tale is played out in a brilliantly designed, glorious surreal alternate world that includes extravagant visuals, absurdist plot twists, and a sense of humor that combines sharp satire with broad slapstick and gross-out imagery. This mixture may displease the weak of stomach, but those attuned to the film’s sensibility will be delighted by the obvious technical virtuosity and wicked sense of humor.
The RCAC is delighted to continue our new Indie Classic Film Series a part of our Performance Series programming. From thought provoking classic films to stunning modern videography, the RCAC has chosen a selection of indie films to interest audiences, and encourages us all to attend movie nights at the Miners’ Hall on the third Thursday of each month. The upcoming movie dates are: January 17, February 21, and March 21.
Come check out the Indie cult classic “Delicatessen” on Thursday, January 17 at the Miners’ Hall. Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for youth under 15, and are sold at the door. The film is rated R.
An “R” rating in BC means that no one under 18 is permitted to attend, whether accompanied by an adult or not.
The second RCAC offering will counteract the dark humour of “Delicatessen” and the passive role of an audience: a theatrical workshop with Bushel & Peck.
Snow is falling —what better time to get silly? Join Bushel & Peck Saturday, January 19th, at Miners’ Hall for a theatrical workshop focused on Clown, Physical Comedy, and Improvisation. You’ll learn how to master things like character creation, embodying emotions, and honouring those all-too-familiar winter impulses.
This workshop will help participants overcome fears associated with performing, encourage people to explore the ridiculous, and learn strategies to connect with an audience. Learn how to converse with that inner critic. Build self-awareness, promote honesty and vulnerability, and celebrate creative play in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Bushel & Peck will be performing at the Charles Bailey Theatre the day prior to the workshop, giving participants who attend insight into the mechanics of professional theatre.
The Rossland Council for Arts & Culture invites you to embrace your inner ridiculous self and participate in this 3 hour workshop, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19 at the Rossland Miners Hall.
