The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has hired Kristina Anderson as the new watershed planner for the Boundary Integrated Watershed Service.

Anderson is currently employed with the Province of BC and will begin work for the RDKB at our Grand Forks office in July 2019.

“This is the exciting next chapter in our 14-year process to build a superb watershed governance and management model in the Boundary,” ,” said Roly Russell, RDKB board chair and director for Area ‘D’/Rural Grand Forks.

“Kristina knows our region and our issues, and we’re excited to have her join us to help coordinate and support activities that will sustain Boundary watersheds for the environmental, economic and social well-being of the region. We’ve come so far as the result of a huge amount of collaboration and energy by staff, elected officials, business, and civil society. With appreciation for that history, we’re thrilled to be moving ahead with Kristina on the team.”

The Boundary Integrated Watershed Service was created following a referendum in fall 2018 in which 53% of those who voted were in favour of creating the new service. The service area extends from Christina Lake in the east to Sidley in the west and Big White to the north.

The new planner will coordinate projects to benefit all Boundary watersheds including the West Kettle and Kettle Rivers; Boundary Creek; the Granby River; Christina Lake and portions of Electoral Area ‘E’/West Boundary in the Okanagan watershed.

Existing stewardship groups will continue to be integral to plans and work to sustain watersheds in the Boundary and the RDKB will continue to work with representatives from agriculture, forestry, industry, mining, stewardship groups, tourism and recreation, water purveyors, First Nations, other levels of government, as well as other stakeholders with an interest or expertise in local watersheds.
