Regional airport in Castlegar to get $1.05 mill for apron and taxiway rehab project

The West Kootenay Regional Airport will be receiving $1.05 million through the B.C. Air Access Program to improve safety and convenience for people travelling through the Castlegar.
“Airports are a key link for the people who live, work and play in our beautiful region,” said New Democrat MLA Katrine Conroy. “Our government sees the value and importance of investing in rural transportation infrastructure.”
This is the first time the Castlegar airport is receiving funding through the program and it will use the grant for an apron and taxiway rehabilitation project. The community airport is one of 16 across the province receiving funding this year. Improvements to community airports will range from runway resurfacing and terminal building expansions, to increased medevac services, weather detection systems and fire protection upgrades, to reducing environmental risks and greenhouse gas emissions.
“Our airports are vital for B.C. and the people who rely on them. We are thrilled that the Province is, once again, dedicating funding to support these heavily used facilities and make improvements possible,” said Heather Bell, chair, BC Aviation Council. “We all need to work together to ensure future infrastructure demands are covered as well as the human resources required to operate these critical facilities.”
