On July 19, after 12 a.m., the Castlegar RCMP responded to a break and enter after a Castlegar home owner disrupted a break and enter to their residence. The Castlegar resident was home at the time of the incident when an unknown male attempted to gain entry through an unlocked door. After a brief struggle the suspect departed on foot and the resident was able to lock the door and contact police. Castlegar RCMP arrived within in minutes of the report and arrested the suspect.  The homeowner suffered no injuries during the incident.

Chad Carr, 48, is currently in custody and will be appearing in Rossland Provincial Court July 22. He is charged with Forcible Entry into a Property and alleged to have committed two other separate Break and Enters to Castlegar residences which occurred June 29 and July 7, 2019. During both these incidents Carr is alleged to enter homes through unlocked entry ways in an attempt to steal property.  In one incident the home owner was home thwarting Carr’s attempt, and in the second incident the resident arrived home to locate Carr in his residence. Carr had been arrested for the Break and Enters and was released from custody on bail awaiting court at the time of his July 19 arrest.

Residents are reminded to lock doors to their residences and outbuildings and report any suspicious activity to police.
