CAUTION: Columbia River levels to decrease this weekend

B.C. Hydro is informing the public of a decrease in water levels this weekend of roughly 3.5 feet, according to spokesperson Mary Anne Coules.
Coules said the change is a result of discharge rates from the Arrow Lakes Reservoir, and advised people to use caution when spending time in or around the Columbia River.
The changes will be as follows:
· At 7 a.m. on Aug. 3, the discharge rate will decrease from approximately 2,005 cubic metres per second (70,800 cubic feet per second) to about 1,869 cubic metres per second (66,000 cubic feet per second).
· At 8 a.m. on Aug. 3, the discharge rate will decrease from approximately 1,869 cubic metres per second (66,000 cubic feet per second) to about 1,727 cubic metres per second (61,000 cubic feet per second).
· At 9 a.m. on Aug. 3, the discharge rate will decrease from approximately 1,727 cubic metres per second (61,000 cubic feet per second) to about 1,586 cubic metres per second (56,000 cubic feet per second).
· At 7 a.m. on Aug.4, the discharge rate will decrease from approximately 1,586 cubic metres per second (56,000 cubic feet per second) to about 1,458 cubic metres per second (51,500 cubic feet per second).
These changes are due to Columbia River Treaty coordination agreements.
When combined with the outflows from the Kootenay River, Columbia River levels at Birchbank are expected to see a decrease in water levels of about 1 metre (3.5 feet) over two days from the current levels.
