A complaint from a Spokane Street resident in Rossland on December 14,  about a parked vehicle with its engine running  all night, resulted in RCMP officers apprehending a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.  When officers investigated the parked vehicle, the 42-year-old Kamloops man initially gave a false name, but officers quickly discovered his real identity – he was in breach of his parole conditions and was taken into custody.  He will serve out the rest of his sentence in jail.

There was also a 30-year-old female passenger in the vehicle – its owner – who received a ticket for $368, for failing to have insurance on her vehicle. She is from Oliver.

Officers also conducted a “road safety check stop” in Lower Rossland on December 11, and the driver of a black 2007 GMC Sierra pickup truck failed to stop as directed by an officer. The officer followed the truck for a short distance before the driver stopped at the side of the road. The officer detected an odour of liquor emanating from the male driver and after performing an impaired driving investigation, obtained a sample of breath which resulted in a fail.

The officer issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition to the 42-year-old Alberta man under section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act (MVA). His vehicle was impounded for a period of at least 30 days. In addition, he was issued a $138 fine for failing to stop for police contrary to Section 73(1) of the BC MVA.

Officers issued another Immediate Roadside Prohibition during that safety check.  Drinkers and other users of consciousness-altering substances, take note: the RCMP have declared their intention to step up enforcement against impaired driving during the 2020 holiday season.
