On Wednesday, April 19 from 4 – 6 p.m., Neighbours United (formerly known as the West Kootenay EcoSociety) will welcome supporters and community members into their new community office space in downtown Castlegar, 1104 3rd Street, to celebrate Earth Week during their Open House event.

“I’m very excited to be reopening a physical space that can be a community hub,” says Montana Burgess, Neighbours United’s Executive Director. “This accessible and inclusive storefront location is meant to support volunteers and staff to work together safely and collaboratively.”

Community members are invited to celebrate Earth Week and this year’s global theme of “invest in your planet” by attending the open house, meeting the Neighbours United team, getting their branded merchandise, learning more about the charitable work that the organization does in Castlegar and beyond, engaging their kids in fun Earth Day themed activities, enjoying refreshments, and meeting like-minded people.

Josh Drozda, Neighbours United’s Deputy Executive Director says, “being in the heart of the West Kootenays provides us new opportunities. It will make running one of our core programs, Farms to Friends, which delivers fresh, healthy and local produce to those in-need, more efficient for our operations.” Drozda explains, “this Castlegar location seemed like the right fit to engage students, newcomers to the region, and community-minded residents. And Earth Week is the right time to kick off this new chapter.”

The Neighbours United team looks forward to being a part of a renewed vibrant downtown Castlegar and working with other local partners in contributing to a healthy, sustainable community for generations to come. Neighbours United previously had offices in Nelson and Trail before closing them due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
