Fireworks a go for Canada Day in Trail
Great news! The Canada Day celebration at Gyro Park on Saturday, July 1 will include a celebratory fireworks show. The Southeast Fire Centre has rescinded the category 2 open fire ban effective June 16, allowing the committee to proceed with the show. The fireworks will be launched from the Gyro Park boat dock at dusk, approximately 9:45 pm. Enjoy the spectacular display from the park or the downtown Esplanade.
“We’re very happy that the timing of the fire ban lift worked out for the event,” said Chris Vlanich, President of the Kiwanis Club of Trail and Chair of the Canada Day Committee. “Although we have many things planned from 10 am to 2 pm at Gyro Park, Canada Day just isn’t the same without fireworks. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to the Trail Firefighters for their ongoing willingness to support our event. With setup, launching, and the beach cleanup, it’s a lot of work to put a fireworks show together.”
The Kiwanis & Rotary Clubs of Trail, Trail Parks and Recreation, and the City of Trail are hosting the event and want to remind everyone about the activities happening at Gyro Park. “We will be ready to start the celebration at 10 am with free games, face painting, and balloon creations for kids,” said Vlanich. “We will have the BBQ fired up, the concession will be open, and the Rotary Club will be selling kettle corn. At noon, we will host the official ceremonies with some greetings, the singing of O Canada, and cake for everyone. Things will wrap up with live music from 12:30 pm to 2 pm by Jason Thomas.”
Event-goers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and sunscreen as the forecast is looking warm. For those wanting to spend more time at the park, Gyro offers a spray park, an inclusive playground, a beach area, covered picnic tables, green space, and a skate park. “If anyone is looking to experience the farmers’ market, incrEDIBLE Trail will be hosting vendors downtown along the Esplanade by the Trail Riverfront Centre from 10 am to 2 pm, and they’d love your support,” said Vlanich. “It’ll be a great day in Trail and we look forward to seeing everyone.”
