The West Kootenay Timberwolves are preparing for the upcoming season as their program continues to grow across the region.

The existing Junior team joined the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League for the 2026 season and has returned to full league play. Meanwhile, the newly formed Senior team will compete in the Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League in their inaugural season.

The Senior Timberwolves will host the Vernon Tigers at the Rossland Arena for their opening home games. Games are scheduled for Saturday, April 11 at 7 pm and Sunday, April 12 at 11 am. More game dates are posted through the club’s Instagram account, @timberwolveslax, on Facebook, or their website wktimberwolves.com and fans are encouraged to follow for the latest updates. The Junior schedule is still being finalized by the league.

The Timberwolves are still accepting players for both teams as they continue to build their rosters. Returning Timberwolves players will be joined by graduates from the West Kootenay Minor Lacrosse Association. Athletes of all genders born in 2009 or earlier who reside anywhere in the West Kootenays are eligible to play. Athletes new to lacrosse who bring transferable skills from other sports are encouraged to try out.

The Timberwolves also extend their appreciation to the sponsors and community supporters who help make the program accessible and sustainable for local athletes.

About Box Lacrosse

Box lacrosse is played mainly during the summer months in hockey arenas, on concrete or turf carpet.  The game is played with a goaltender and five players a side on the floor at one time. The strategy of lacrosse is like that of basketball, with all five runners involved in the offense and the defense. Added to the appeal are the speed and excitement created by a 30-second shot clock. The combination of action and reaction makes box lacrosse as much fun to play as it is to watch.
