On Thursday, July 31, at 11:35 p.m., frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP, BC Highway Patrol Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (CARS), Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, and BC Emergency Health Services (BC EHS) responded to a collision between a motorcycle and a dump truck on Hwy 22 near the intersection of Courtesy Road, in Genelle, according to Trai RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

He said a 65-year-old Castlegar man driving the dump truck travelling northbound allegedly lost control of his vehicle, causing him to cross over the centreline of the highway. After crossing the centreline, the dump truck struck a 64-year-old Quesnel man riding his motorcycle in the southbound lane.

He said the 64-year-old Quesnel motorcyclist sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The man was transported by BC EHS to hospital for medical treatment.

The 65-year-old Castlegar man driving the dump truck may have suffered a medical episode prior to the incident. He was also transported by BC EHS to hospital for medical treatment.

Highway traffic was diverted through Genelle for several hours until the scene investigation was completed. The investigation continues.

The incident was believed to be very serious initially due to the circumstances. Fortunately, the motorcyclist survived and is expected to fully recover despite this scary close call. Please remember to look out in particular for our motorcycling friends and drive defensively while travelling on our busy roads,  Wicentowich said.
