The Regional District of Central Kootenay is pleased to announce dates residents can dispose of toxic hazardous materials hiding in and around homes.

Saturday, October 13, residents can dispose of hazardous materials at the Castlegar and District Community Complex from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The time is the same for Nelson, however the RDCK has yet to determine the place where waste materials can be dropped off.

This is a free disposal for residential household hazardous waste and is open to all residents of the RDCK and municipalities. Industrial and commercial wastes are not accepted at these locations.

Household hazardous waste is any waste in the home that is considered to be dangerous or that you are unsure of, including any leftover household product that is marked flammable, corrosive, explosive or poison.

Common examples are pesticides, varnishes, paints, cleaners, and batteries.

These products are harmful to humans, animals or the environment if not handled properly and should not be put in the garbage or poured into a drain and they should be stored away from children.

The following week, Saturday, October 20, household hazardous waste is being accepted in Creston as the District Community Complex and in Nakusp at the arena.

Times are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
