Traffic stop in Nelson nets West Kootenay Integrated Road Safety Unit 1.3 pounds of cocaine

Going the wrong way down a street in the Heritage City cost a Calgary man more than just a traffic ticket.
RCMP charged a 37-year-old Calgary man with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Property Obtained by Crime after a routine traffic stop netted police 1.3 pounds of cocaine, scales and other drug paraphernalia.
The incident happened Friday afternoon (12:20 p.m.) in Nelson.
Members of the West Kootenay Integrated Road Safety Unit (IRSU) stopped a white Ford F350 pickup for driving down the wrong way on a one-way street.
During the stop officers investigated the driver for impaired driving and also noticed open liquor inside the vehicle before finding the cocaine.
Facing charges is Andrew William McGuire of Calgary, Alberta.
McGuire has been remanded to custody prior to his next court appearance on Wednesday (October 10) in Castlegar.
