West Kootenay Habitat for Humanity provides another house for local family

The West Kootenay Habitat for Humanity presented the Chris Catta Family with the keys to the new house during a blessing ceremony Sunday in the Uphill district of Nelson.
Pastor Jim Reimer of the Kootenay Christian Fellowship was on hand to conduct the blessing along with the Catta Family and members of the West Kootenay Habitat for Humanity.
The West Kootenay chapter of Habitat for Humanity, which started in 1996, is proud to help give a hand up to local low-income families.
As the house in Uphill was a buy-back from a previous family, the Catta’s will be out and about the community devoting 500 hours of “sweat equity” to help pay for the home.
Habitat for Humanity provides an interest free mortgage and sells the home to a selected family at a discount on the fair market value of the home.
The first home in Nelson was completed in July of 2000.
Since the 1996, Habitat for Humanity West Kootenay has built a total of three homes in the Nelson area, including one duplex.
Through these homes, a total of four families have been given a hand up.
