Dear parents and guardians:

Unfortunately we have reached the end of the 2013/2014 school year and the full scale withdrawal of teaching services by members of the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) continues.  I am writing you to give you an update regarding year-end report cards.

For K-7 students (K-9 at Rossland Summit School)

Due to the ongoing labour dispute we are unable to report in our usual manner.  A very simplified report card with attendance information and a grade promotion statement will be mailed home in the first week of July to parents and guardians of grade K-7 students (K-9 at Rossland Summit School).

For grade 8-9 students

Prior to July 11th we hope to be able to email or mail report cards to grade 8-9 students from Stanley Humphries Secondary, J. Lloyd Crowe Secondary, Kootenay-Columbia Learning Centre – Trail Campus and Online Learning Centre.  Due to the ongoing labour dispute, we are unable to report in the usual manner.  These report cards will provide attendance information, semester 1 final marks and any marks received by the office for semester 2.  Your child has been given “Standing Granted” or SG for all courses in which final marks have not been provided as a result of the labour dispute.  Since Grade 8 and 9 marks are not used for scholarship purposes or post-secondary entry, there is no negative impact by the use of the Standing Granted mark.  The SG mark designates that the student will be advanced in those courses to the next grade level for the 2014-2015 school year.  If you believe that advancing your child to the next grade level in a specific course is not appropriate please contact the school.

For grade 10-12 students

Prior to July 11th we hope to be able to email or mail report cards to grade 10-12 students from Stanley Humphries Secondary, J. Lloyd Crowe Secondary, Kootenay-Columbia Learning Centre – Trail Campus and Online Learning Centre.  Again, due to the ongoing labour dispute, we are unable to report in the usual manner.  Essential service orders by the Labour Relations Board have determined that marks are required to be provided by teachers for reporting to parents and post-secondary.  This report card therefore provides attendance information, and school based final marks only.  These final grades will also be released to the Ministry of Education for students’ graduation transcripts, ensuring that all graduation credits are documented, available for student transcripts and accessible by post-secondary institutions if requested.

Thank you for your continued patience.  I know that you share our desire to return to normal operations in time for a regular start to the 2014/2015 school year.
