Silverton councillor elected to Federation of Canadian Municipalities board

A local politician has been elected to the British Columbia caucus of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) Board of Directors.
Leah Main, a councillor for the Village of Silverton and a director on the Regional District of Central Kootenay Board, was elected at the FCM Annual Convention in Edmonton on June 7th. Main is one of five representatives from British Columbia on the FCM Board.
“I will do my very best to represent our needs and values on the broader stage,” says Main. “I am excited to have been elected and immensely appreciative of the support I received from my RDCK colleagues.”
In her speech to the FCM delegates, Main said she “believes in partnerships between the three orders of government, and in the ability of local governments to both deliver services where they are needed, and to take the lead toward bringing new issues to public attention.”
“I know how important it is for us to work together to accomplish what we cannot do each on our own,” added Main.
“We are very pleased to once again to have one of our director’s sitting on the BC caucus of FCM,” says Karen Hamling, Chair of the RDCK.
“The FCM convention was well worth attending and Director Main’s election was one of the highlights.”
FCM “represents the interests of local governments on policy and programs that fall within federal jurisdiction.”
It is comprised of 2,000 members ranging from rural communities to large cities.
